IF IT IS YOUR POWER!

“And he said to him, if now I have found favor in your eyes, then show me a sign that it is you who speaks with me.”(Judges 6:17)  (John 6:30) “So they said to him, then what sign do you do, that we may see and believe you? What work do you perform?”

A sign can be defined as something that suggests the presence or existence of a fact, condition or quality. In other words, signs are made to inquire about something for us to believe. As Christians, we need signs to understand and believe the true existence of God, being it prophecy about our daily lives, what is being written in the Bible, people around us or our ministerial work.

Bible prophecy enables us to see what lies behind certain historical events and this is especially true when Christ birth was foretold and accompanied great signs (Luke 1: 31) “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.”  All that was prophesized by angel Gabriel came into being. (Luke 1: 35) “The angel answered her, the Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called Holy- the Son of God.” Truly these signs manifested through Him all His days.

In the book of Exodus chapters 3 and 4 Moses was given powerful signs (Exodus 3:2) reveals “the angel of God appears to him in flames of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed.” The concluding (Exodus 3: 3-22) showed wonderful signs that it was indeed God who was speaking to Moses. (Exodus 4: 1- 17) also outlines Moses continues encounter with God of which He showed him powerful signs upon signs,  at last the people of Israel confidently said indeed God has spoken to Moses. (Exodus 3:6) “That they may believe that the Lord, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob have appeared to you.”

(Matthew 14: 28) “And Peter said if it is you; command me to come to you on the water.” Peter walked on the water and came towards Jesus, though he doubted and the Bible says began to sunk of which Jesus rescued him. By this sign it rekindled their faith, “then those who were on the boat worshiped Him saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” (Matthew 14:33)

Another example could be said in (Luke 1:13) “But the angel said to him, Do not be afraid Zechariah your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son , and you are to give him the name John.” after Zechariah was given this sign about his unborn son John the Baptist ,the prophecy and signs came to pass and his wife bore a  son. Zechariah doubted and the Bible says became dumb (Luke 1: 20).

Dear God if it is really you who have called us to into your ministry, to go into the world to proclaim the gospel to the whole creation, then please show us signs, that you showed to our forefathers Moses, Isaac, Zachariah and others, that they may believe us and willingly proclaim that indeed the God of Isaac, Abraham, Jacob has called us. Amen!
