Source: Pexels.com The scripture often quoted by individuals, “Greater is He in me than that that is in the world” is stated nonchalantly without thinking out who or what is really in thee. Babies that are still having their food softened, as well as those that have grown to a mature age in Christianity quote the scripture just the same. “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world,” 1 John 4:4 (KJV) is not a scripture that should be taken lightly. At this stage, we require guidance and teaching from more mature believers to understand the fundamental principles of our faith. The Bible acknowledges this need for teaching and guidance in Hebrews 5:12-14, which states, "For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil." However, as we mature in our faith, we come to a point where we no longer rely solely on human teachers for guidance. But when they become the source of our identity, they can quietly corrupt our hearts. In both the workplace and the church, vulnerable people often look to leaders for safety, guidance, and compassion. When leaders become consumed by their own elevation, they risk turning sacred spaces into stages for ego. The Bible presents pride not merely as arrogance but as a spiritual condition that blinds individuals to truth, leads to rebellion, and separates them from God's favor. The "spirit of pride" is a recurring theme throughout Scripture, often preceding destruction and spiritual failure. The Origin of Pride: Lucifer’s Fall The most common example of pride is found in Isaiah 14:12–15, where Lucifer declares: “I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God… I will be like the Most High.” This self-exaltation led to his fall, setting the precedent for pride as rebellion against God.
